As I was washing these cherry tomatoes for dinner yesterday, I realized how cool they looked as water flowed over and surrounded them. I decided to take them out of the container and place them into a white bowl.  The plain background placed the focus of the photograph on the tomatoes. They looked pretty plain, so I decided to add a sprig of basil that floated nicely on top of the water. Tomato and basil is one of my favorite combinations, so I couldn’t resist!

Food photography is very difficult, and I am hoping to learn more about how to perfect the art. One of the best ways to learn is by doing!  Adding the basil to the composition made a large positive difference to the overall photograph.  Do not be afraid to slightly alter the composition of the photo, perhaps by adding a small additional object that goes with the overall theme, or one that is of a contrasting color. It can make a strong and powerful impact.
