Because it is the first day of February, I felt that it was appropriate to post this photograph of a single pinecone.  As an avid nature lover, I have always really liked pinecones.  They are so different from many other things found in nature; both their texture and shape makes them unique. What are your favorite things found in nature?

There are several things I like about this photograph.  I used the flash in the camera which highlights specific aspects of the texture of the end of the pinecone. I really like that all of the layers are somewhat visible.  I also like that only the end of the pinecone is crisply focused.   The blurry and not focused rest of the tree against the blue sky created a very unique background for this photograph, which further draws attention to the solitary pinecone. Both lighting and focus are vital elements to any photograph.
